IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • We seek an attorney capable of managing a catastrophic injury-focused caseload. Supported by our skilled paralegals, you will oversee all facets of litigation.
  • Work collaboratively with a Partner to manage 8-20 catastrophic personal injury cases.
  • For smaller cases, you will operate with minimal supervision.
  • Must be comfortable handling high-exposure, high-profile cases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboratively manage a portfolio of 8-20 catastrophic personal injury cases alongside a Partner, with autonomy on smaller cases.
  • Guide and assist assigned staff in the daily management of cases.
  • Direct investigations on all pre-litigation and litigation matters as necessary.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for case managers to discuss questions for attorney review and approval.
  • Assess potential and ongoing matters for valuation to facilitate early resolutions.
  • Develop and implement a litigation strategy through trial.
  • Identify and retain medical and legal experts for each case, including their trial preparation.
  • Ensure consistent communication with clients and staff throughout the litigation process.
  • Conduct legal research on pertinent issues during litigation.
  • Prepare legal documents such as summons, complaints, and other pleadings for court filing.
  • Manage written discovery processes.
  • Draft correspondence to opposing counsel regarding discovery matters.
  • Prepare clients for depositions and relevant hearings.
  • Conduct and defend depositions throughout the litigation process.
  • Prepare and respond to motions.
  • Attend mediations and court appearances.
  • Oversee trial preparation, including the creation of trial documents and outlines for witness examinations.
  • Conduct monthly file reviews with team members.
  • Oversee liability investigations for all assigned personal injury cases.
  • Participate in monthly file reviews with the Managing Attorney(s).
  • Manage the medical aspects of all assigned personal injury cases, including reviewing medical reports and recommendations.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong knowledge of medical and legal experts.
  • Familiarity with mediators, judges, and arbitrators.
  • Understanding of health insurance issues, including Medi-Cal and Medi-Care.
  • Ability to negotiate settlements for full value in pre-litigation and litigation cases.
  • Capable of engaging with challenging clients.
  • Ability to determine the necessity of filing suit in various jurisdictions.
  • Proficient in negotiating medical liens upon settlement.
  • Skilled in identifying high-value cases early and coordinating with paralegals.
  • Knowledgeable in statute deadlines and timelines related to various claims.
  • Proficient in conducting investigations, including site visits and witness interviews.
  • Familiar with government and worker's compensation claim timelines.
  • Understanding of premises liability cases and relevant liability arguments.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office and online research tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctorate and current good standing with the California State Bar are required.
  • 2-6 years of experience in a law firm’s Personal Injury department.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and compassion for clients in need of Personal Injury services.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with Workers' Compensation terminology is essential.

COMPENSATION:

  • Base Salary: $140,000 - $200,000 (Dependent on Experience)
  • Additional Commission Pay/Attorney Fees
