Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7am - 4pm
As a GIS Analyst, you will engage in foundational to intermediate analytical and technical tasks that support the County's computer programming requirements for the enterprise GIS framework. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of GIS activities, including but not limited to: spatial analysis, data preparation, visualization design, map production utilizing fundamental cartographic principles, record maintenance, web data configuration, and the introductory use of programming/scripting to design, develop, implement, and document automated computer applications. You will also assist in the maintenance of existing systems while employing various programming tools such as ArcObjects, ArcGIS ModelBuilder, HTML, JavaScript, VB .Net, SQL, Arcade, and Python.
Working Conditions
Typical office environment with occasional outdoor fieldwork required, potentially in adverse weather. Responsibilities may involve prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer, with exposure to high noise levels during specific tasks. Lifting of objects up to 25 lbs independently and up to 50 lbs with assistance may be necessary.
Essential Functions:
These functions are illustrative of the types of work performed and do not exclude other duties:
1. Collaborate with division staff and the department GIS coordinator to create new systems, workflows, and enhancements to existing processes.
2. Coordinate with users to identify issues and modifications; research, troubleshoot, and resolve system/process challenges.
3. Develop GIS applications to support transportation professionals in decision-making.
4. Conduct GIS-based spatial analysis.
5. Generate routine and specialized maps.
6. Execute GIS tasks related to digitizing, geocoding, feature class creation, and programming/scripting.
7. Process data for relational databases using SQL.
8. Optimize application utilization and explore alternative options.
9. Prepare geoprocessing scripts (Python, JavaScript, SQL) to automate internal workflows.
10. Create visualizations, manage geodatabases, and assist with GIS tasks for other departmental needs.
11. Recommend new software solutions and assist in their implementation.
Minimum Qualifications:
GIS Analyst I: Associate degree in computer science, geography, environmental science, or a related field, with at least one year of relevant experience.
GIS Analyst II: Bachelor's degree in a related field and two or more years of experience in GIS or IT systems analysis and programming.
GIS Analyst III: Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of four years of experience in IT systems analysis and programming, including three years in GIS and spatial database workflows.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Proficient understanding of geographic concepts, techniques, coordinate systems, spatial analysis, relational databases, and SQL.
2. Knowledge of cartographic techniques and map production.
3. Familiarity with GIS software, ESRI solutions, web GIS, and programming (both web-based and GIS).
4. Valid driver's license required, with a Florida driver's license to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
