Job Summary

The Chief Human Resources Officer is a strategic leader responsible for providing vision and direction for Berkeley Lab's Human Resources function. This role oversees critical HR activities, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a long-term HR strategic plan to ensure strong pipelines for future hiring needs.
  • Partner with senior leadership on laboratory-wide people stewardship initiatives.
  • Manage HR Division resources, including administration of employees and budget.
  • Provide oversight for all people development processes, including succession planning, talent acquisition, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement effective employee programs to enhance employee capabilities, engagement, and motivation.
  • Provide strategic oversight, direction, and optimization of HR business processes and information technology systems.
  • Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Accountable for Laboratory HR management policies that ensure effective management and administration in compliance with all relevant requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible HR experience and a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing the design and implementation of an HR Strategic Plan.
  • Demonstrated success as a strategic member of a senior executive team.
  • Experienced in leading a highly effective HR organization.
  • Track record of upgrading organizational capability through recruitment and workforce development.
  • Demonstrated success working in a complex labor environment.
  • Inspiring, visionary, and collaborative leader.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of HR management and best practices.
  • Commitment to upholding the Lab's stewardship responsibilities.
