Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Assistant to join our team at Fort Worth ISD. As a key member of our educational support staff, you will play a vital role in helping students with special needs achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students with physical and instructional needs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs.
  • Work under the general supervision of a principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
  • Participate in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process and serve as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
  • Assist students with daily living functions, such as toileting, diapering, writing, eating, walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Requirements
  • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
  • Obtain a valid Texas educational aide certificate.
  • Two years' experience working with children.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred in some settings.
Working Conditions

This position requires regular and punctual attendance at the worksite. The employee will work in a standard office setting and school building environment, with occasional exposure to noise and regular required listening and speaking.

Physical and Mental Demands

The employee will be required to maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, and work irregular and/or prolonged hours. The employee may be required to lift students weighing in excess of 50 lbs. when necessary and restrain students when necessary.
