Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer for Propulsion Motors

Tesla is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of experts in designing and developing propulsion motors for our electric vehicles. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating innovative and efficient motor designs that meet our high standards for performance, reliability, and sustainability.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for stators, rotors, speed sensing, and interconnect assemblies
  • Drive the development of winding technology, magnet technology, steel stamping, and lamination joining, electrical insulation systems, interconnections, and thermal sensing
  • Identify and qualify suppliers of raw materials, components, and assemblies
  • Develop design validation and durability testing profiles and analyze data
  • Carry designs through to high-volume production, including DFM, cost reductions, and second sourcing
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns
Requirements:
  • Evidence of exceptional ability in motor design and development
  • Experience with multiple coil winding and termination technologies
  • Experience with multiple magnet technologies
  • Worked with an international supply chain
  • Automotive design and validation experience
Expected Skills:
  • GD&T, 3D CAD, 2D Drawings, DFMEA, PFMEA, structural and thermal FEA
Bonus Skills:
  • Catia, NVH analysis, electromagnetics design, specification writing, plastic injection molding, bolted joint design
Compensation and Benefits:

Tesla offers a competitive salary range of $104,000 - $204,000 per year, depending on level, plus cash and stock awards, and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401(k) matching, and employee stock purchase plans.

Additionally, Tesla offers a range of voluntary benefits, including critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft and legal services, and pet insurance.
