Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Bilingual Social Studies Teacher to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching social studies to students in a bilingual setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate parent advisory activities and parent education workshops.
  • Develop and implement the District program of instruction in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, and complies with State Department of Education Standards and the APS Board of Education goals and objectives.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and establish clear objectives for all lessons, assignments, units, and projects.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior and discipline to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate the learning progress of students on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the District testing program.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students' academic, social, and behavioral progress.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Select and request appropriate books and instructional materials, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Prescribe effective learning programs, and initiate referrals to appropriate personnel when concerns arise.
  • Provide directions and materials for substitute teachers, and plan for and supervise classroom aides, guests, and volunteers.
  • Cooperate with staff and support personnel in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, learning, and behavioral problems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid NM Teacher's license appropriate to teaching assignment.
  • 200 K-8 Elementary, 350 5-9 Middle-Level, 300 6-12 Secondary, or 500 PreK-12 Specialty Area license with appropriate endorsement(s) in Bilingual Education and Social Studies.
