Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Social Studies Teacher to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans
    • Collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues to create personalized learning plans that cater to each student's unique needs and abilities.
  • Design and Deliver Engaging Curriculum
    • Plan and implement a comprehensive social studies curriculum that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Foster a Positive and Inclusive Classroom Environment
    • Establish a safe and respectful learning space that encourages students to take risks, explore their interests, and develop a growth mindset.
  • Communicate Effectively with Students, Parents, and Colleagues
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues through regular communication, progress updates, and collaborative problem-solving.
Requirements
  • Education and Licensure
    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
    • Current New Mexico teaching certificate endorsed in the area(s) to be taught.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience Working with Diverse Populations
    • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities, English language learners, and students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of Inclusive Education Practices
    • Knowledge of evidence-based inclusive education practices, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction.
