Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Irving Independent School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting the health, well-being, and academic achievement of all students by performing assessments, providing treatment, and implementing health education programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and maintain student health records, adhering to medical documentation regulations.
  • Manage clinical functions, including medical care, nursing systems, communication, and supply management.
  • Provide individual and group health instruction, including education on health-related concerns.
  • Train, orient, supervise, and coordinate the duties of assistive personnel, including clinic assistants, substitutes, student nurses, and volunteers.
  • Ensure confidentiality for all students and staff members receiving care in the school clinic.
School Climate
  • Maintain professional communication with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Promote effective nursing practices with professional collegiality and collaboration.
  • Model health values and positive attitudes for students, staff, and parents.
School Improvement
  • Develop and coordinate health promotion activities within the district and community.
  • Promote safety by assessing the school environment and instructional practices.
  • Oversee training of Bloodborne Pathogen Control Plan to faculty and staff.
  • Recruit and prepare administrative staff to coordinate responsibilities in disaster readiness planning.
  • Foster a climate of well-being for the school community.
Student Management
  • Assess and develop student-specific individual health plans, implement care, and evaluate results to ensure programs meet the health needs of students.
  • Complete state-mandated screening programs, including vision, hearing, scoliosis, Acanthosis nigricans (AN), dental, and BMI screenings.
  • Implement care for chronic and acute illnesses and manage first aid procedures for injuries.
  • Maintain FERPA and HIPAA regulations when communicating health needs of students.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional organizations, including the Texas School Nurse Association (TSNO), National Association of School Nurses (NASN), Texas School Health Association (TSHA), and American School Health Association (ASHA).
  • Subscribe to professional periodicals and introduce best practices to professional school nursing.
  • Maintain required CEUs for nursing licensure.
  • Attend and actively participate in professional nursing conferences.
Requirements
  • Professional Registered Nurse
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Valid Texas Nurse License
  • Certificate from State Health Department for vision, hearing, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screening
  • CPR Instructor certification
Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens. Responsibilities may require lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, and pushing, as well as occasional prolonged working hours.
