Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision, adhering to standard protocols and recognizing anomalies in results.
- Review and evaluate the accuracy of laboratory data, reporting patient results with all necessary documentation.
- Conduct quality control checks, ensuring the performance of laboratory instruments and equipment, and documenting QC data according to procedures.
- Perform and document required maintenance procedures for laboratory instruments and equipment, as assigned.
- Recognize equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot according to established protocols.
- Identify factors affecting measurements and results, taking appropriate action to ensure accurate outcomes.
- Work independently within established guidelines, applying problem-solving skills to meet deadlines and urgent patient, provider, and system needs.
- Review and suggest revisions for test procedures, participating in evaluations of new tests or instruments as assigned.
- Monitor inventory levels, notify responsible personnel when supplies are needed, and receive and unpack supplies upon delivery.
- Train and instruct employees and students, assessing staff competency as needed.
- Communicate relevant information to staff members, management, medical directors, and other divisions.
- Perform laboratory testing as required by the division.
- Be available to cover different shifts, ensuring patient care is guaranteed.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structures, as well as all safety protocols in laboratory areas.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty certification and clinical laboratory work experience in Blood Bank.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- Must obtain certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent certification within 12 months of hire.
- Qualify as Testing Personnel for high complexity testing under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA).
Work Schedule: Evening Shift, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays.
