Key Responsibilities:

As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for a range of technical tasks associated with conducting screening and diagnostic mammography procedures.

  • Welcome patients and provide clear instructions regarding procedures.
  • Operate mammographic and related equipment while adhering to safety protocols and radiation protection standards.
  • Position patients accurately for examinations, calculate exposure factors, and assist physicians as needed.
  • Conduct quality control measures related to mammography.
  • Assess radiographs for diagnostic quality and obtain additional images when necessary.
  • Prepare and organize medical supplies using appropriate aseptic techniques, and explain procedures to patients.
  • Facilitate orientation for new Mammography Technologists.
  • Assist in the maintenance and compilation of statistical data.
  • Exhibit proficiency in performing all breast imaging procedures, including interventional techniques.
  • Carry out other related duties as required.

The individual in this role must demonstrate current competencies relevant to the position.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an AMA accredited radiologic technology program.

Experience: A minimum of two years in radiologic imaging modalities, with at least one year of experience in Mammography and bone densitometry preferred.

Certifications and Licensure: Must hold a valid license in the State of Florida, ARRT certification in Radiography (RT(R)), and current ARRT certification in Mammography (M). BLS Certification is also required.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Expertise in Mammography and Bone Density procedures and protocols.
  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology.
  • Experience with the operation, quality assurance, and troubleshooting of various radiologic equipment.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and protection protocols for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Experience with breast interventional procedures.
  • Proficient in using computer and network systems for processing and submitting images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Emergency response knowledge, including AED function and crash cart location, with the ability to respond calmly to medical events.
Abilities:
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, patients, and families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients.
Physical and Mental Demands:

This role requires a full range of body motion, including the ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. It also involves positioning patients and requires 20/20 correctable vision.

Working Environment:

The position is based in a medical office setting, specifically in mammography examination and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, needles, and communicable diseases is inherent to the role. Work locations may vary.
