Responsibilities:

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care:

  • Utilize scientific principles to provide care to antepartum, laboring, postpartum patients, and newborns.
  • Promptly complete documentation to ensure an accurate and legal record of patient care.
  • Deliver high-quality care using the nursing process, demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills specific to perinatal, obstetrical, and neonatal specialties, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Utilize a holistic approach, considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the individual's needs.
  • Delegate and provide direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice, holding them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Utilize critical thinking in developing nursing interventions, maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.

Clinical Excellence and Patient Education:

  • Utilize teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
  • Consult appropriate resources to provide specialized education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority, preventing errors, accidents, and infections, and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
  • Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Quality Assurance:

  • Assist with departmental and hospital-wide organizational quality improvement activities.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
  • BSN preferred.

Experience:

  • One year of acute clinical care experience.
  • One year of obstetric clinical care preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from the date of hire.
  • Fetal monitor course current of completion within 3 months of employment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) current or completion within 6 months of employment.
  • STABLE course current or completion within 1 year of employment.
  • Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
