Cardiac Surgical Nurse Residency Program

At Portsmouth Regional Hospital, we are committed to the growth and development of our future nurses. Our Cardiac Surgical Nurse Residency Program is a year-long program designed to provide you with hands-on experience and establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills.
Program Highlights- Advanced clinical training in a cardiac surgical specialty
- Monthly educational sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills
- Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor to guide you through the transition from student nurse to registered nurse
- Measurement and evaluation of skills through hands-on simulations
- Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders to support your growth and development
As a RN Resident in our Cardiac Surgical Nurse Residency Program, you will be responsible for:
- Assessing patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status
- Performing procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s)
- Documenting the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administering prescribed medications and monitoring patient for therapeutic response
- Providing exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests and anticipating patient needs
To be eligible for our Cardiac Surgical Nurse Residency Program, you must:
- Hold a Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
- Hold an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
- Have an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Be a Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State
