Job Summary

As a Pharmacy Technician II at Memorial Healthcare, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation of medications for patients under the direction of a registered pharmacist. This is a support position that requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare medications for pharmacist review before dispensing.
  • Perform tasks involved with preparation and labeling of IV admixtures and associated record keeping.
  • Packages dry orals, liquid orals, and small volume injectables in unit-of-use containers using a combination of mechanical equipment and manual procedures.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas within appropriate time frames.
  • Ensure drug items are appropriately billed to various areas or patients.
  • Ensure expired medications are removed from pharmacy inventory and stored properly.
  • Process transfers and discharges according to established departmental procedures.
  • Assist pharmacists in maintaining accurate medication profiles for each patient receiving medications, according to department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assist with management of drug stock, including shelving new drug stock with proper item rotation, arranging stock, and organizing storage areas.
  • Assist in managing incoming telephone calls to ensure proper triage of calls.
  • Assist pharmacists in ensuring drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner.
  • Assist pharmacists in maintaining pharmacy inventory at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner.
  • Assist in effectively training and orienting new personnel or students to the departmental services and programs.
  • Satisfactorily complete required hospital programs.
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the pharmacy department.
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and support hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • National certification (PTCB) and either state pharmacy technician or pharmacist intern license required.

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with frequent interaction with patients, visitors, and hospital staff. The work environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, with occasional exposure to disease or infections, hazardous materials, sounds, or noise levels that can be distracting or uncomfortable.
