This position reports to

Process and Product Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this capacity, you will serve as an expert in testing and verification processes. Your daily tasks will involve ensuring that testing activities are completed efficiently, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety regulations, and cybersecurity protocols. You will also leverage your expertise to provide insights into the design process from a testing standpoint. The work model for this role is onsite. This position contributes to the Electrification Smart Power division in North America. Your primary responsibilities will include:
• Designing and maintaining electrical and infrastructure systems for ABB's Power Protection sector, which encompasses high-power three-phase AC power distribution in testing environments, cooling systems, safety/fire protection, and other essential building support systems.
• Collaborating with project team members to coordinate technical project requirements, including internal stakeholders, contractors, code officials, utility companies, and project managers.
• Developing power distribution systems, which include panelboards, switchboards, overcurrent protection devices, transformers, disconnect switches, conductors, raceways, wiring devices, generators, and more.
• Assisting in the review of construction documents to ensure consistency with standards, challenge assumptions, and promote best practices. Drafting RFP specifications and procedures for electrical and electromechanical assemblies.

Qualifications for the role
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to the NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code), building codes, and energy codes.
  • Experience in construction administration tasks such as reviewing product submittals and shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), inspecting projects at various construction stages, and providing field reports.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting and Microsoft Office is essential.
  • Familiarity with SKM or similar electrical modeling software is advantageous.
  • Experience with REVIT MEP and project management is a plus.
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and detailed electrical schematics.
  • Professional Engineering licensure in VA is a plus.
  • Candidates must possess work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the US.
