Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct comprehensive Activity Therapy assessments for all assigned cases, engaging with each resident within specified timelines to summarize individual capabilities, motivations, and preferences.
2. Actively participate in Master Treatment planning and contribute to treatment plan updates, ensuring accurate documentation of behaviors in the Therapeutic Progress section of each monthly Treatment Plan Update for assigned cases.
3. Facilitate therapeutic recreation and expressive therapy groups as scheduled, ensuring group interventions align with Treatment Plan objectives and effectively managing group dynamics for optimal therapeutic benefit.
4. Serve as a role model, providing group facilitation training and leading group activities with intentional therapeutic goals.
5. Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by organizing the activity therapy area to minimize risks and overseeing the maintenance of equipment used in experiential activities.
6. Support departmental objectives by offering and receiving constructive feedback in all professional interactions, demonstrating healthy boundaries and adapting behavior in response to feedback.
7. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary leadership team to uphold rules and expectations, communicating plans for activities in advance and addressing concerns to support the therapeutic environment.
8. Document progress accurately in Weekly Progress toward Treatment Objectives and Recreation Specialist Weekly Progress Notes for all assigned cases in a timely manner.
9. Complete annual training to maintain State licensing requirements and uphold Wilderness First Responder certification, enhancing recreation therapy skills for Wilderness and Adventure programming.
10. Oversee personnel management activities related to direct staff supervision, including recruitment, orientation, training, performance management, and employee relations.
11. Lead the recreation specialist internship program, acting as the site coordinator and defining intern responsibilities and evaluation criteria.
12. Provide ongoing training for program staff to enhance resident engagement skills and improve therapeutic outcomes.
13. Facilitate the development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement of recreation programs.
14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

Clinical Expertise: A bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, social work, humanities, or a related therapeutic discipline. Licensure: State of Alaska CTRS preferred. Therapeutic Skills: Proficiency in delivering psychotherapeutic services. Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
