Position Overview:
Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) is seeking a Weight Management Specialist to enhance our Health Engagement and Promotion department. This full-time role is based in our regional office with a flexible work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of health educators, physicians, nutritionists, and nurses to drive positive patient outcomes through effective integration within multi-disciplinary specialty teams.
  • Act as a liaison for referring physicians and patients, providing essential resources and coordinating care across various programs to ensure a smooth weight loss journey.
  • Conduct weekly virtual orientation sessions for groups of 15-20 patients, offering insights into lifestyle modifications for weight loss and available resources.
  • Assist Physician Lead(s) in organizing and facilitating regular meetings with stakeholders to promote ongoing collaboration between departments, including managing schedules and supporting complex case presentations.
  • Oversee intake requests to facilitate patient scheduling into various weight loss programs, ensuring accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of data collected through health education and training initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health, psychology, nutrition, or a related field is required.
  • At least three years of experience in leading classes and applying motivational interviewing techniques for healthy lifestyle changes.
  • Certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES) is preferred or must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Strong understanding of health education principles, adult learning methodologies, motivational interviewing, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Willingness to commute as needed within the region.
  • Availability to work after hours or weekends as required.
  • Must provide proof of Covid vaccination and influenza vaccination as a condition of employment.
