Position Summary
The role involves overseeing and assisting clients throughout their detoxification and stabilization journey, providing essential crisis management support when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete the Healthcare Intake documentation upon a client's entry into the facility, ensuring effective communication with the attending physician and adherence to detoxification protocols based on individual assessments.
- Ensure compliance with DHCS and JCAHO standards and regulations.
- Organize client appointments with the attending physician, manage laboratory requests, and guarantee that all clients receive necessary laboratory services.
- Dispense and monitor self-administered medications for assigned clients daily.
- Utilize clinical software EMR for documentation, ensuring all healthcare notes are recorded within a 24-hour timeframe.
- Process medication orders within a 4-hour window of admission and appointments.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Department to provide clients' medication orders and insurance details to the pharmacy, managing all subsequent refills and medication adjustments.
- Engage with new clients experiencing substance abuse issues upon their admission and throughout their stay.
- Assist in the admission process and orientation of new clients.
- Clarify expectations, policies, and procedures to clients.
- Support clients in acclimating to the community environment.
- Employ intervention and communication skills to assist clients and prevent them from leaving Against Clinical Advice (ACA).
- Serve as a role model, sharing personal experiences when appropriate, while ensuring the safety of clients, staff, volunteers, and vendors.
- Participate in ACA blocking, lead assigned group sessions, and contribute to the daily operations of the detox program.
- Maintain open communication with supervisors and leadership team members.
- Monitor clients continuously, completing observation logs every 30 minutes as per Department of Health Care Services regulations.
- Conduct searches on clients and their belongings when necessary, including inventory checks upon intake.
- Ensure adherence to the activity and treatment schedule.
- Assist in monitoring clients' self-administration of medications as scheduled, documenting compliance.
- Conduct drug and alcohol testing as required, observing clients during specimen collection according to established protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas by restocking supplies, following up on client chores, and assisting as needed.
- Perform regular rounds of the facility to ensure clients are in designated areas.
- Attend all required training sessions provided by the organization or external agencies.
- Document and report any significant incidents related to client care and safety.
- Facilitate group sessions based on a 12-step curriculum.
- Ensure the upkeep of facility grounds at all times.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist clinical staff as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to enforce policies consistently and fairly.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
- Valid California driver's license and ability to operate motor vehicles.
- Familiarity with 12-step support principles.
- Awareness of the importance of cultural sensitivity.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience in taking vital signs and observing clients' medical conditions.
- Patience, tact, and a positive attitude when interacting with clients.
- Adherence to safety protocols.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
- Resourcefulness and dedication in client interactions.
- Ability to follow directions and adhere to established procedures.
- Calm and effective response in emergency situations.
- Previous experience in a chemical dependency treatment setting (2-5 years preferred) and familiarity with the 12-step recovery program.
Certifications:
- Medication Technician Certificate.
- RADT 1 or CADC certification preferred (may be in progress).
- Current Adult First Aid certification.
- Valid CA Drivers License with clearance for client transport.
- Proof of recent TB Test.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
