Your Role:
Are you eager to be part of a diverse team that collaborates with Federal Agencies to address urgent environmental threats and safeguard public health? This position could be an excellent fit for you. For over 25 years, our dedicated team of scientists, engineers, GIS analysts, and technical specialists has supported the U.S. EPA's Superfund Technical Assessment and Response program across various regions. Our Atlanta office excels in providing technical expertise in environmental consulting, engineering, regulatory compliance, sustainability, and the investigation/remediation of severely impacted sites throughout the Southeast. Additionally, we offer direct emergency preparedness and response support to the U.S. EPA in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver technical assistance for preparedness, removal actions, hazardous waste management, site investigations, remediation, field sampling, and air quality monitoring.
- Plan field events involving multimedia sampling and data collection, analyze results, and prepare comprehensive reports and deliverables, including GIS-based work products.
- Function effectively in both team settings and independently without supervision.
- Support emergency response on-call activities for up to two weeks per month, with a commitment to respond within a mandatory 3-hour timeframe.
- Travel periodically to manage or assist field teams during environmental emergencies across the south-central U.S.
- Facilitate effective communication within the team and with clients, and provide technical training and demonstrations.
- Produce clear, well-structured, and accurate technical reports utilizing proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated expertise in emergency response operations, emergency management, and EPA guidelines for environmental response and cleanup.
- Experience in counter-terrorism, public health, fire/hazmat, EOD, emergency medicine, and continuity of operations planning is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with field environmental chemistry, including hazardous chemical identification.
- Experience in planning and executing work with various levels of personal protective equipment (OSHA Level A, B, C, and D).
- Willingness to mobilize or coordinate mobilizations on short notice during an on-call schedule.
- Proficient in using various field equipment and conducting sampling and data collection with remotely monitored instruments and electronic documentation systems.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations, including CERCLA, OPA, and the Stafford Act is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with reporting capabilities.
- 40-hour OSHA training is preferred.
- Prior experience as an environmental, oil spill, and hazardous materials first responder is preferred.
- Advanced training in the Incident Command System (ICS) is preferred.
A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, physical science, ecology, sustainability, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in emergency response, emergency management, or environmental consulting.
Physical Demands:
Work may involve exposure to inclement weather and lifting up to 50 lbs, as well as the potential use of personal protective equipment, including respirators and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Work Environment:
Work may include hazardous site conditions requiring HAZWOPER and other relevant training.
