Job Summary

This is a hands-on, onsite role that offers the opportunity to shape environmental initiatives and collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals. The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four years of progressively responsible experience in environmental compliance, laboratory management, engineering, or wastewater operations and support.

The Environmental Services Manager will be responsible for providing guidance and knowledge, tracking compliance, and leading pollution prevention initiatives. The role also involves directing the training and development of environmental services and laboratory staff, as well as overseeing performance management.

Collaborating with the District leadership team, the Environmental Services Manager will advise on environmental standards and initiatives, ensuring that the District meets compliance requirements and sets a benchmark for excellence in environmental stewardship.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of environmental regulations governing wastewater, biosolids land application, storm water, air quality, industrial pretreatment, solid waste, hazardous waste, and related programs. Experience developing and implementing a comprehensive environmental compliance program, including NPDES permit compliance, is highly desirable.

Supervisory experience is preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will be a key player in advancing sustainable practices in Duluth, MN, and will have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community while safeguarding natural resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (chemical engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental studies, or related field)
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in environmental compliance, laboratory management, engineering, or wastewater operations and support
  • Experience developing and implementing a comprehensive environmental compliance program, including NPDES permit compliance
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations governing wastewater, biosolids land application, storm water, air quality, industrial pretreatment, solid waste, hazardous waste, and related programs
