Software Developer for Space Mission Operations

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a software developer for space mission operations, you'll play a critical role in designing, implementing, and testing software systems that enable our space vehicles to fly safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop software systems for space mission operations, including mission activity planning and scheduling, commanding and on-orbit operations, telemetry monitoring and display, operational communications, mission visualization, flight/ground system integration/testing, and operations training.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define software requirements, architectures, and designs.
  • Design, implement, test, verify, and deploy mission operations software systems, ensuring the success of the overall Ground Data System (hardware/software) supporting Blue Origin space mission operations.
  • Perform trade studies to determine whether to develop software tools in-house, subcontract work to develop tools, or adapt or purchase existing software to perform a particular function.

Requirements:

  • S. or higher degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, or related field.
  • ~5+ years of software development experience.
  • ~ Experience in software engineering over the course of the full lifecycle of software development, including system design and analysis, requirement capture and development, software implementation and verification, system integration, qualification, and release.
  • ~ Experience in software build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
  • ~ Demonstrated software development skills in multiple software languages, with ability to implement in the language most appropriate to the problem-domain.
  • ~ Familiarity with Linux environment and comfortable with basic Unix system administration activities.
  • ~ Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • ~ S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and developing ground software for space flight operations.
  • Experience developing complex applications in Python.
  • Experience in web development and/or database development and interfaces.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Cloud Technologies.
  • Experience developing software systems for the following applications and technologies: telemetry data processing, management, display and archival, fault monitoring and alarm notification systems, mission and activity planning and scheduling and timeline display for space missions, space mission visualization, including virtual reality systems, and spacecraft subsystems and associated subsystem software.
