Trailer Maintenance Specialist

Position Overview
The primary objective of this role is to guarantee the safe and effective functioning of our trailer fleet through skilled maintenance, repair, and inspection activities. Your technical knowledge will play a vital role in upholding the exceptional quality of our trailers, reducing downtime, and reinforcing our dedication to providing dependable and timely transportation solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Trailer Upkeep: Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on trailers to detect and resolve potential problems before they develop. This includes assessing brakes, suspension systems, electrical components, tires, and other essential parts.
- Diagnosis and Repair: Identify and rectify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues impacting trailers. Efficiently troubleshoot problems and implement suitable solutions to ensure minimal disruption to operations. Review DVIRs in Samsara, inspect and repair equipment as necessary to address reported issues, clear DVIRs, and document maintenance performed.
- Compliance with Safety Standards: Ensure that trailers adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements established by relevant authorities. Maintain precise records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities to demonstrate compliance.
- Emergency Response: Act swiftly to emergency repair requests to minimize downtime and promptly restore trailers to operational status. Follow up with the request until the vehicle is back in service.
- Parts Coordination: Work closely with the procurement team to order and maintain a sufficient inventory of spare parts and components necessary for trailer repairs.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow mechanics, drivers, and operational staff to address maintenance-related issues and foster a culture of safety and efficiency. Be available for after-hours service calls as needed, including weekends.
- Equipment Enhancement: Identify potential opportunities for equipment upgrades or modifications that can improve the performance, durability, and safety of our trailer fleet.
- Continuous Learning: Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in trailer maintenance to continually enhance skills and knowledge.
- Workplace Organization: Ensure that the maintenance shop and work area are kept clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience as a trailer mechanic or in a comparable maintenance role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in diagnosing and repairing trailers.
- Ability to utilize various tools, diagnostic equipment, and software relevant to trailer maintenance.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to trailers.
- Attention to detail and capability to adhere to maintenance schedules and protocols.
- Robust problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy components, prolonged standing and walking, bending and stooping to access trailer parts, reaching and handling tools, occasional climbing, pushing and pulling equipment, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
