Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager to lead our team of policy and planning experts in the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). This is a full-time position with an estimated salary range of $90,000–$110,000 annually.

About Us

The Central Transportation Planning Staff of the Boston Region MPO / CTPS is a public agency dedicated to addressing the region's transportation challenges. Our deep transportation knowledge is essential to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, regional transit authorities, cities and towns within the region, as well as other agencies and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee staff focused on planning and policy research and analysis in support of the MPO and other project work at the agency.
  • Support and mentor staff in the ongoing development of programs, including developing multi-year visions and fostering cross-agency collaboration.
  • Collaborate with other groups in the agency, including the Communications and Engagement team; technical teams responsible for carrying out multimodal transportation planning, modeling, and data analysis; and the MPO Activities team to jointly fulfill the MPO's responsibilities and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate internally to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality work products that comply with federal requirements, are clear and engaging, and provide meaningful resources for MPO board members, agency partners, and members of the public.
  • Work with agency leadership to respond to and partner with diverse stakeholders, ensuring all are engaged in a fair, collaborative, and thorough manner.
  • Provide ongoing, timely support and feedback to team members, and deliver thoughtful evaluations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in urban studies, planning, public administration, political science, government, public policy, or a related field, plus at least five years of staff management experience; or a master's degree in the fields listed above and two years of staff management experience.
  • Proven ability to manage people with emotional intelligence, empathy, and listening skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage concurrent streams of work.
  • Experience applying quality assurance procedures to produce work products of a high standard in the context of changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

Additional Information

This is a hybrid schedule position, combining time in the office with remote work. Employees must reside within a commutable distance from the Central Transportation Planning Staff's office, which is located in downtown Boston, in a transit-oriented and bicycle-friendly area. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States and a valid driver's license and/or the ability to arrange transportation to meetings in different parts of the region.
