At Eastern Research Group, we are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Indian Head, Maryland. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing mechanical designs for renovations and upgrades to existing buildings at a federal site.

This is a full-time position that will involve working closely with teams of engineers and technicians who support a large campus with a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring preventative maintenance programs, providing engineering support for documenting and troubleshooting operational issues with mechanical equipment, and identifying and resolving compliance issues.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. You will also need to have at least eight years of experience with a mechanical engineering degree or at least ten years of relevant experience and a degree in another engineering discipline. A Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, or monitor preventative maintenance programs (e.g., inspections, testing, and maintenance) that comply with federal and local requirements and industry codes, standards, and guidelines
  • Provide engineering support toward documenting and/or troubleshooting operational issues with mechanical equipment
  • Identify and work to proactively resolve any compliance issues
  • Identify and document potential capital improvement projects necessary to improve operations by conducting site visits to document existing conditions, developing new requirements based on planned use, and creating preliminary scopes or budgetary cost estimates
  • Perform mechanical design reviews for facility improvement projects provided by third-party or in-house design efforts
  • Assess compliance of design packages with applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), codes, and regulations as well as end-user requirements
  • Knowledge and experience working with related equipment and systems such as HVAC, pumps, compressors, and blowers
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other stakeholders, internal and external
  • Serve as a project manager on some assigned projects

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (minimum GPA of 3.0)
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred but not required
  • At least eight years of experience with a mechanical engineering degree or at least ten years of relevant experience and a degree in another engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate/communicate effectively with internal/external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Ability to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience with Process Control Systems such as programmable logic controller (PLC) ladder logic and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming is a plus
  • Specific experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens systems is a plus
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering
