The Patient Service Representative serves as the initial point of contact for patients at Palomar Health Medical Group.
This role involves welcoming and registering patients, managing phone communications, accurately documenting patient data, and facilitating smooth patient flow throughout the facility.
The PSR is tasked with scheduling appointments for walk-in patients, verifying insurance details, explaining billing processes, collecting necessary payments, preparing and filing patient documentation, and handling medical records efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Warmly greets and checks in patients upon their arrival, assisting them with self-service kiosks as needed.
- Maintains exceptional customer service standards for patients, their families, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Handles a high volume of incoming calls from patients and referring providers, addressing inquiries promptly.
- Ensures patients complete required documentation, secures necessary signatures, and accurately inputs registration information.
- Verifies all insurance, personal, and health information at the time of service, scanning necessary documents into the patient’s file.
- Conducts outbound calls for appointment reminders, follow-ups, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Monitors daily scheduling to ensure efficient patient flow, coordinating with back office staff as necessary.
- Collects co-payments, deductibles, and prior balances, while clearly explaining payment policies and patient financial responsibilities.
- Prepares and organizes patient forms, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient information.
- Balances daily transactions and receipts, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Proposes enhancements to processes aimed at improving patient experience and operational efficiency.
- Manages patient portal communications effectively.
- Acts as the department's receptionist for external vendors and contractors.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience in a customer service role, ideally within a healthcare environment.
Familiarity with insurance processes, patient benefits, and third-party requirements is preferred. Proficiency in telephone communication and computer skills is essential.Job Requirements
