Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lactation Consultant to join our team at Ochsner LSU Health System. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert lactation support to new mothers and their families, promoting best breastfeeding practices, and educating healthcare professionals on lactation-related topics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized lactation support to patients, including assessment, counseling, and education on breastfeeding techniques and management of common lactation issues.
  • Develop and implement lactation programs and services to promote breastfeeding initiation and duration, including inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive lactation care and support for patients.
  • Conduct quality improvement initiatives to monitor and improve lactation outcomes, including data collection and analysis.
  • Stay current with evidence-based lactation research and best practices, applying this knowledge to inform lactation care and education.
Requirements
  • Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification.
  • 2 years of experience in maternal-child health nursing, with a focus on lactation consulting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position, working in a patient care area with exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. The incumbent will work in an area where patients enter, works directly with patients, and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.
