Position Overview & Responsibilities:

Position Overview:

This role involves working as a Bridge Evaluation Engineer within the Bureau of Structures and Geotechnical Services at the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Key Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct support to the Bridge Evaluation Engineer.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with KDOT, State and Federal Agencies, Consultants, and the public.
  • Manage bridge load raters to assess load ratings of new and existing structures on the State Highway System, ensuring compliance with Agency Policy and Federal and State guidelines.
  • Review plans from internal teams and Consultants, evaluate Consultant load rating models, and oversee others in reviewing both internal and Consultant plans and load rating models.
  • Collaborate with K-TRIPS software developers to enhance and maintain the software.
  • Address escalated calls from users in the call center and resolve complex issues.
  • Mentor and develop staff to align with division or agency mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Assess team member performance, document achievements, and recommend disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Special assignments include providing permitting data requested by FHWA annually, fulfilling special requests from other bureaus, drafting legislative fiscal notes, executing executive orders related to OSOW permitting, updating Kansas regulations concerning Oversize/Overweight Permitting, and supporting economic development plans involving OSOW loads.

Qualifications:

Education

  • A degree in Engineering and a Professional Engineers License recognized by the State of Kansas.

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Professional Engineers License recognized by the State of Kansas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering License acknowledged by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions and a minimum of four years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in navigating and interpreting Kansas Statutes and Regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
