Emergency Department Technician

Nuvance Health is seeking a skilled Emergency Department Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Emergency Department team, you will provide quality patient care and work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the clinical area, ensuring it is clean and meets infection control standards, and ensure adequate supplies and linens are available.
- Prepare the patient and treatment room for exams, including assisting patients into gowns, securing belongings, and attaching necessary monitoring devices and supplies.
- Provide specific duties for complex, critical care patients, including trauma, stroke, and STEMI patients, such as setting up rapid infusers, Baer Hugger, surgical trays, pleurovac, and Lifepack.
- Initiate protocol testing, including placing orders and completing required documentation.
- Communicate with patients and collect specimens for analysis, following approved policies and procedures while observing universal precautions.
- Perform hourly rounding and maintain regular communication with patients and their families, acting as a conduit for communication with the care team.
- Achieve the organization's performance expectations regarding quality service, teamwork, and staff development, and participate in performance improvement activities as needed.
- Transport patients to testing and in-patient units.
- Complete mandatory continuing education and attend staff meetings.
- Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of on-the-job experience and holds either a Medical Assistant or EMT certification, or over 5 years of on-the-job experience in the Emergency Department.
- Maintain skills necessary, such as Basic Life Support (BLS), and keep competencies current.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Phlebotomy and EKG training.
- Direct patient care skills.
