Job Overview

The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer will be responsible for conducting or reviewing technical security evaluations of computing environments to pinpoint vulnerabilities, ensure compliance with established Information Assurance (IA) standards, and propose mitigation strategies. This role involves validating and verifying system security requirements and establishing comprehensive security designs.

The engineer will design, develop, implement, and/or integrate IA and security systems and components across various environments, including those with multiple enclaves and differing data protection requirements. The position entails embedding IA into systems deployed in operational settings and assisting architects and developers in identifying and implementing suitable information security functionalities to ensure consistent application of organizational security policies and enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review security architectures, firewall configurations, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and security controls for new and proposed systems.
  • Proactively identify and resolve risks to high-value assets.
  • Develop and manage strategic and tactical security programs encompassing physical, personnel, and procedural aspects.
  • Architect, design, implement, support, and evaluate security-focused tools and services, including project leadership roles.
  • Advise software developers on vulnerability remediation.
  • Implement security vulnerability testing tools for continuous monitoring and patch verification.
  • Conduct product testing and evaluation in a controlled environment.
  • Review certification and accreditation documentation, providing feedback on completeness and compliance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of 8570 controls, testing information systems for compliance, and creating test cases.
  • Understand incident response processes and contribute to the execution and reporting of related activities.
  • Possess knowledge of network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VLANs, and routing.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies, including virtual firewalls and network segmentation.
  • Proficient in monitoring and configuring networking and firewall systems.
  • Experience with SIEM technologies such as Splunk and creating security event dashboards.
  • Knowledge of malware identification, containment, and eradication strategies.
  • Understand access control systems, PKI, multi-factor authentication, and entitlement management.
  • Proficient in both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Contribute to the development of security policies and procedures.
  • Provide detailed security recommendations for the secure development and maintenance of systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend new and emerging security products and technologies.
  • Support security operations as needed.
  • Participate in projects that generate new intellectual property.
  • Promote security awareness within the organization and advocate for customer trust.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Be results-oriented, high-energy, and self-motivated.
  • Be prepared to respond to after-hours requests as necessary in a 24/7 environment.

Requirements:

Skills, Experience, and Education:

A minimum of fourteen (14) years of experience as an Information Systems Security Engineer on programs and contracts of similar scope and complexity within the Federal Government is required. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required. Alternatively, four (4) years of additional ISSE experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.

Compliance: DoD 8570 compliance with IASAE Level 2 is required.

Clearance: TS/SCI with polygraph is mandatory.
