Nurse Practitioner

As a Pediatric Nurse Clinician at UnityPoint Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality professional nursing care to our pediatric patients. Your expertise will be essential in assisting providers and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information, preparing patients for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures. You will also be responsible for demonstrating competence in clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties, including drawing and collecting blood and other samples from patients, administering vaccines and ordered medications, and placing urinary catheters per protocol.
- Assist providers and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information, preparing patients for examination, treatment, and minor surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate competence in clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties.
- Draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Administer vaccines and ordered medications by oral, IM, SQ, or ID routes.
- Place urinary catheters per protocol.
- Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient as requested by the provider.
- Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-9 coding.
- Track system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status.
- Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
Development and Patient Education
As a Pediatric Nurse Clinician, you will also be responsible for providing education to patients and families using the Teach-back method per protocols and guidelines. You will work closely with the team to balance individual and team responsibilities, be open and objective to other's views, give and welcome feedback, contribute to positive team goals, and put the success of the team above your own interests. You will also be responsible for performing other duties as requested by the Clinic Administrator to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the office.

- Perform other duties as requested by the Clinic Administrator.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a graduate degree from an accredited program for Registered Nurses, a current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. You will also need to maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines, as well as behave in a manner consistent with all policies and procedures, including but not limited to Compliance, HIPAA, and personnel workplace rules. You will also need to maintain regular and consistent attendance at work and demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
