Position Summary:
The Building Maintenance Technician is tasked with the upkeep and sanitation of the facilities, ensuring that all areas meet established cleanliness standards through a structured cleaning regimen. This role is crucial in promoting the health and safety of the community.
Employment Details:This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours of work per week over a 5-day schedule. The starting compensation for this role is $17.37 per hour.
The institution operates continuously to support research, educational initiatives, outreach, and various meetings.
We cater to the marine interests of the university, the state, local stakeholders, and visiting scholars from around the globe.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize cleaning machinery such as vacuum cleaners, floor strippers, and buffers for facility maintenance.
- Handle cleaning agents and materials effectively.
- Manage waste disposal and maintain cleanliness in vents, windows, doors, restrooms, furniture, walls, and floors.
- Secure and unlock facilities as required.
- Ensure walkways are clean and accessible.
- Conduct thorough cleaning inside and around the buildings.
- Assist in moving furniture and equipment as necessary.
- May involve making beds and managing linens.
- Provide guidance to less experienced staff regarding procedures and processes.

Qualifications:
Essential Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) along with relevant experience, including at least one year in custodial or grounds maintenance roles, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Experience in cleaning educational and office environments.
- Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment.
- Physical capability to lift up to 40 lbs regularly and perform other demanding tasks as needed.
