Work Schedule

The ICU RN is expected to possess a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge to deliver safe and effective critical care to patients. Continuous education, skill development, and validation are facilitated by an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for both new and seasoned ICU nurses. Newly hired RNs will undergo an orientation period ranging from 2 to 14 weeks, depending on their prior experience. Our preceptors are carefully chosen for their teaching capabilities and are formally trained to address the educational needs of new staff. Special attention is given to new graduate ICU RNs as they engage in our Nurse Residency Program and online education for Critical Care Essentials.

Supportive Environment

ICU staff benefit from a collaborative care team that includes unit-based respiratory, physical, speech, and occupational therapists. Additional services such as interpreter, nutrition, palliative care, chaplaincy, and ethics are readily accessible. Our ICU is staffed with on-site and eICU pulmonary critical care intensivists and their team of physician extenders available around the clock. Daily interdisciplinary rounds led by physicians and driven by nursing input ensure continuity of care and address any nursing concerns or inquiries. These rounds are designed to be both educational and engaging.
