POSITION SUMMARY: This role entails significant responsibility in delivering nursing services focused on the care and treatment of residents. The position operates under the guidance of a Charge Nurse, with potential supervisory duties over Nursing Assistants and support staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates the adjustment of new residents to the unit's philosophy and objectives;
  • Reports any incidents or changes in resident conditions to the Charge Nurse and documents findings in the resident's chart;
  • Engages in discussions regarding clinical matters related to resident care with the Charge Nurse;
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the preparation, execution, and ongoing assessment of care plans;
  • Observes, documents, and communicates any progress or changes in residents' health status;
  • Updates care plans as necessary;
  • Administers therapeutic treatments;
  • Dispenses medications (excluding I.V. medications) to residents, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness;
  • Manages and accounts for controlled substances;
  • Keeps accurate nursing care and administrative records and reports;
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional development programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary nursing practices;
  • Proficient in applying practical nursing techniques and procedures for resident care;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to foster and maintain collaborative working relationships;
  • Dependability, resourcefulness, keen observational skills, and professionalism;
  • Competence in operating medical equipment (e.g., suction machines, oxygen units, vaporizers);
  • Capability to maintain detailed records and generate reports;
  • Physical fitness commensurate with the job's demands.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of a nursing program accredited by the New York State Education Department qualifying for Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in New York State, or possession of a limited permit to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State, with licensure obtained within six months of appointment.
