Job Title: Self-Sufficiency Specialist III

Join the Commonwealth of Virginia team as a Self-Sufficiency Specialist III, a key role in our public assistance programs. As a specialist, you will provide consultation on complex cases, working with sensitive and confidential information. Your expertise will be essential in making eligibility and employability decisions independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Make determinations of eligibility for programs, evaluating data gathered through interviews and client/worker investigations.
  • Investigate and verify client finances, residency, employment resources, and related matters.
  • Monitor the efficacy of programs, complete reports, and participate in task forces and strategic planning.
  • Provide statistical data and information to support budget requests and explain programs to applicants and recipients.
  • Carry a caseload of clients receiving public assistance and employment services, developing employment and child care plans for customers facing complex situations.
  • Serve as a resource to staff and the public concerning employment services, public assistance programs, and eligibility requirements.
  • Supervise and develop job readiness and job search workshops, working with employers to develop job opportunities for clients.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and submit summaries and information as required.
Requirements:
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, codes, policies, and procedures related to public assistance, employment services, and child care programs.
  • Basic human behavior, financial assistance programs, and human services programs.
  • Mathematics to calculate percentages, formulas, and averages to solve mathematical problems.
  • Interviewing techniques, such as data collection, interrogation, and investigation.
  • Employment services and public assistance programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in benefit programs and employment services.
  • Ability to manage complex cases, apply public assistance and employment services policies, and communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals.
