Counter WMD Group Lead

MITRE is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Group Leader to join our Biotechnology and Life Sciences Department within the Emerging Technologies Innovation Center. As a Group Leader, you will be responsible for providing strategic vision, technical leadership, and mentorship to a diverse team of experts working to enhance the US Government's ability to prevent the proliferation or use of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs).
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Vision and Leadership: Develop and execute a holistic vision for the group that supports the department's strategic plan, covering all WMD modalities (counter C, B, R, and N), and related areas such as counter proliferation, strategic trade control, etc.
- Technical Expertise: Maintain awareness of USG efforts in c-WMD, identify opportunities for MITRE impact, and engage across MITRE and with sponsors to develop and grow impactful work.
- Staff Engagement and Development: Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and coaching to a team of 7-10 staff members, ensuring their technical skills are maintained and expanded, and helping them navigate transitions between projects.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work with other Group Leaders and department leadership to create a vibrant inter-group dynamic, fostering collaboration, mentoring, and development across groups.
- Recruiting and Hiring: Play a key role in the department's recruiting and hiring process, identifying when additional staff are required and participating in candidate presentations and technical panel interviews.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biomedical engineering, computational biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 8 years of related experience, with a proven track record in c-WMD or a similar field.
- Clearance: Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a US Top Secret security clearance.
- Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to coach, mentor, and advocate for staff, and a desire to help staff at various points in their careers.
