Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for students on forklift operation and safety.
  • Administer written certification exams to students and provide feedback on their performance.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions, including pre-trip inspections, forklift operation, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor student attendance and progress, and report any issues to the Manager of Workforce Development and Community Partnerships-Workforce Trades.
  • Reinforce the student code of conduct and workplace standards in the classroom.
  • Conduct driving skills tests for each student and evaluate their performance.
  • Distribute evaluations to students and collect them from an assigned student.
  • Provide information about potential employment opportunities in the Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics field.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and five years of forklift driving experience.
  • Ability to adapt to a student's needs and work with a group of students at different skill levels.
  • Ability to relate classroom training to real-world scenarios and possess good communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility to work varied hours, including daytime and evening availability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree.
  • Eight years of forklift driving experience, preferably in a warehouse or shipping dock work environment.
  • Experience teaching in a community college environment.
  • Familiarity with different types of material handling equipment.

Working Conditions:

The hands-on training area has minimal heat during the winter and can be very warm during the summer. Appropriate attire is necessary. The employee must be able to get on and off the forklift safely and properly. An electric, sit-down rider forklift is used for training. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods is required.
