Job Overview

The Product Engineer is responsible for overseeing the introduction of new products and providing engineering support for production processes related to specific products or product lines after their transition from design to manufacturing. This role requires collaboration with design, process, testing, reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams to address product challenges and production issues. The Product Engineer will also focus on implementing process enhancements aimed at reducing production costs and improving yield rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate projects effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Take ownership of design and project components, ensuring accountability for timely delivery of design outputs.
  • Facilitate communication across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and other relevant departments.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at process improvement to enhance throughput and yield.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies in daily operations and problem-solving efforts.
  • Collaborate directly with R&D/Design engineering on the development of new components and assemblies.
  • Engage in design reviews and engineering analyses to support New Product Development (NPD) efforts.
  • Contribute valuable insights during design reviews and communicate effectively with engineering teams and product managers to achieve optimal solutions.
  • Ensure new products comply with quality standards and that recommendations align with internal processes and industry best practices.
  • Work alongside R&D engineers to facilitate the transition of new products to the production environment, ensuring manufacturability.
  • Develop innovative solutions (equipment and processes) to meet volume manufacturing objectives.
  • Utilize knowledge of various manufacturing processes to ensure that design solutions are feasible for production.
  • Ensure that all objectives related to aesthetics, functionality, specifications, and manufacturability are achieved.
  • Propose design strategies and solutions for technical challenges affecting manufacturing operations.
  • Coordinate with different Engineering Departments to address assembly, design, and specification challenges.
  • Support technical processes on projects, including Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Explore new manufacturing methods or technologies to enhance current processes and increase production capacity.
  • Oversee the installation, debugging, and setup of new fixtures.
  • Collaborate on the installation of new manufacturing equipment and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, or Engineering.
  • Experience in various operational disciplines within a contract manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in at least two of the following areas: procurement, planning, production management, master scheduling, factory engineering, logistics, and program management.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of contract manufacturing environments and Bill of Material management.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and driving continuous process improvement initiatives, with strong analytical skills to identify root causes for resolution.
