Technical Specialist

SOVAH Health - Danville is seeking a full-time Technical Specialist to provide leadership and technical oversight in the laboratory's clinical chemistry department.
Key Responsibilities:- Verify patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.
- Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate test methodologies for clinical use based on the laboratory's scope of care and customer needs.
- Collaborate with appropriate staff to develop practice guidelines.
- Maintain specialty knowledge in the technical areas to collaborate with the laboratory staff, physicians, nursing staff, and other customers on appropriate use of medical technology.
- Develop and implement quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper functioning of laboratory equipment, and compliance with applicable federal regulations.
- Resolve technical problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance criteria.
- Perform competency assessment according to Laboratory Competency Assessment protocol.
- Identify training needs and develop in-service and educational programs based on current needs, new policies or procedures, or on problems identified during supervisory review or competency assessments.
- Determine, coordinate, and supervise daily staffing assignments and levels.
- Provide direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
- Perform or assist with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Assess and ensure quality of services delivered and facilitate staff development programs.
- Ensure staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Perform staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.
- Lead the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Graduate of a Program in Medical Laboratory Science required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care and appropriateness of lab coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Danville on all units.
- Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required.
