APP Opportunity in General Surgery

Atrium Health is seeking a highly skilled APP to join our General Surgery team at University City. As a patient-centered teammate, you will manage the care of all patients within the General Surgery setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform medical history, physical examinations, routine assessments, and determine treatment plans for general surgery patients.
  • Independently round on pre- and post-operative patients, evaluate inpatient consults, and determine appropriateness for surgery.
  • Evaluate postoperative and select consult patients in clinic at AH University City.
  • First assist in various elective general surgery cases, including laparoscopic procedures and open abdominal cases.
  • Opportunity to train, precept, and mentor APP fellows, medical students, and PA/NP students.
  • Document all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a timely and medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate for the population served.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement priorities, service delivery processes, and service excellence initiatives.
  • Adhere to access & productivity policies & protocols to ensure that patients access to convenient care is optimized.
  • Adhere to standards and care protocols to deliver appropriate, innovative, and cost-effective care management in-person and virtually.

Education, Experience, and Certification:

Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Eligibility for licensure to practice as a NP or PA in the state of practice. Eligibility for prescriptive privileges and DEA license required. BLS, and ACLS from AHA required. ATLS from ACS required. Maintenance of Certification is required.

Nurse Practitioners are required to have a Masters Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice, as well as be Certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistants are required to have a masters degree and certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Reporting:

This position reports directly to their collaborating physician and/or APP leader.
