Job Description

Job Title: Principal Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our team at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex engineering projects from concept to post-implementation, providing technical leadership and engineering support to the manufacturing plant, and managing the purchase, installation, and start-up of equipment and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all tasks based on the responsibilities for project phases (Concept, Planning, Design, Implementation, and Post-Implementation).
  • Provide technical support for engineering projects, including equipment design and development, capital project execution, manufacturing technical support, new product introduction, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Conceive, plan, and implement solutions of considerable novelty and importance, and develop and evaluate plans for solving unique and complex engineering problems.
  • Contribute new designs or techniques that support and further the company's strategic business objectives.
  • Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Prepare or approve technical memos, reports, analyze and summarize data, and recommend conclusions based on engineering/technical rationale.
  • Review and approve reports and confirm conclusions are based on engineering/technical rationale.
  • Responsible for the technical support and expertise for manufacturing trouble shooting and quality investigations.
  • Participate in the development of short- and long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead a technical team or primary technical lead on cross-functional teams.
  • Determine project strategy to effectively manage specific project prioritization according to available resources and project criticality.
  • Review and approve Commissioning and Qualification documentation, such as plans, protocols, and reports, as required.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain engineering project schedules, resources, and budgets for assigned projects to meet project objectives on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and lead review of project proposals, charters, project updates for assigned projects for management.
  • Independently manage projects from concept to post-implementation for complex projects.
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and use mature engineering judgment while anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems and creating opportunities.
  • Provide technical direction to external resources, such as designers, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert regarding changes, improvements, CIPs, and sustainability.
  • Develop technical engineering strategies in support of company-wide business plans.
  • Monitor industry trends, benchmarks, and leverage engineering expertise across the company.
  • Provide overall project leadership and mentorship to peers.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to lower-level engineers or project teams.
  • Consult extensively by colleagues and other, and a high degree of reliance is placed on engineering technical advice.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in Engineering required.
  • Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or any other engineering discipline is required.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • 8 years of experience with a pharmaceutical or consumer products company is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in engineering, technical, and/or operations experience is required.
  • Knowledge of cGMPs and Good Documentation Practices is required.
  • Experience working in FDA/cGMP compliance environment preferred.
