Northern Children's Services is seeking Community-Based Therapists to join our team. This part-time role provides intensive psychotherapy services to children and families in various settings outside of traditional provider agencies or offices. While services often take place in the child's home and school, other potential environments include community centers, relatives' homes, and other community locations. The services offered by a Community-Based Therapist are tailored to the unique needs of each child and family, ensuring that the child is an active participant in their treatment, alongside parents and other caregivers as integral members of the treatment team.

Key Responsibilities of this Role Include:

Communication
  • Facilitates the development of adaptive skills and relationships for the child.
  • Available for crisis intervention and collaborates with the child, family, and other professionals to create a crisis plan, which may include behavioral contracts and lists of community and therapeutic resources.
  • Maintains communication with other treatment team members and assists in executing the treatment plan. Aids in developing daily routines that enhance the treatment approach outlined in the treatment plan.
Documentation
  • Keeps progress notes for every billable and non-billable contact.
  • Completes and submits progress notes within 72 hours of service and other billing documentation weekly for timely review.
  • Documents collateral contacts with family and other entities involved in client treatment in progress notes.
  • Reviews and updates the Treatment Plan as necessary at least every six months, or when significant events occur, such as hospitalization.
Planning
  • Provides child-centered, evidence-based, family-focused individual and family psychotherapy as appropriate, addressing the defined problem areas in the treatment plan and utilizing a strength-based approach.
  • Ensures that services provided to children and families are cohesive and that continuity of care is maintained.
  • Coordinates the overall clinical direction of treatment and determines, with the family and other professionals, any additional necessary support services.
  • If medication compliance is an issue, assists the family in developing daily routines to ensure regular medication intake and attendance at check-ups.
  • Participates in clinical consultation/supervision and staff training programs as required.
Monitoring
  • Evaluates the strengths and therapeutic needs of the child and family through active listening, inquiry, and information exchange.
Qualifications

(Must meet one of A-D to qualify, in addition to E & F)

A. Education: Minimum Requirement - Master's Degree from an accredited institution in a clinical mental health discipline AND completion of clinical or mental health practicum.

B. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification or equivalent behavioral analysis certification.

C. Graduate degree in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA).

D. Licensed Behavior Specialist Consultant (BSC).

E. Experience: At least one year of full-time paid experience in the mental health field, with a strong understanding of clinical issues related to children, adolescents, and families.

F. Familiarity with multiple child-serving systems (e.g., education, juvenile justice, child welfare, mental health, drug and alcohol, health care, and vocational rehabilitation).

Physical Capabilities & Work Environment
  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Proficient in operating a computer, printer, and calculator.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle or utilize public transportation.
  • Requires flexibility in work schedules, including evening and weekend hours.
