Conducts diagnostic cardiac imaging procedures to evaluate cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics in accordance with relevant standards and organizational policies. Responsible for executing commonly performed echocardiography techniques with a high level of skill and accuracy.

Key Procedures Include:
- Two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiograms
- Exercise/dobutamine stress echocardiograms
- Agitated saline (bubble) studies
- Ultrasound enhancing agent echocardiograms

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • Graduate from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

Level I or II:

  • RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer OR ARDMS (RDCS AE for adult or RDCS PE for pediatric)
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

Level III

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

Two of the following:

  • RCS (CCI)-Registered Cardiac Sonographer
  • ACS (CCI) - Advanced Cardiac Sonographer
  • ARDMS - RDCS(AE) - Adult
  • ARDMS - RDCS(PE) - Pediatric
  • ARDMS - RDCS(FE) - Fetal
  • ARDMS - RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist

OR Accomplishes one of the following:

  • Acquisition and post-processing of advanced 3D/4D imaging and strain imaging
  • Imaging for structural heart transthoracic echocardiograms
  • Left ventricular assist device and ECMO imaging
  • Cardiac transplant patient imaging
  • Adult congenital heart patient imaging
  • Participation in cardiac research initiatives involving echocardiography
  • Vascular imaging in addition to cardiac imaging
  • Cardiac MRI acquisition and analysis

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Level I - No prior experience necessary.
  • Level II - At least 2 years of experience required.
  • Level III - At least 5 years of experience required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Intermediate understanding of diagnostic cardiac imaging principles, procedures, and techniques, along with the operation and upkeep of imaging equipment, including experience in trauma and emergency situations.
  • Proficient in conducting cardiac sonographic examinations with a solid grasp of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology to identify, prioritize, and communicate abnormal findings effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical individuals.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities, including the capacity to prioritize tasks and adhere to established procedures and scientific methods to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and relevant information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Skill in identifying, evaluating, and resolving standard issues by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
  • Commitment to maintaining the privacy of each patient's protected health information (PHI).
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
