Position Overview
The Resident Care Specialist is responsible for ensuring the well-being, comfort, and safety of residents by assisting them with daily activities and addressing their individual care requirements. This role involves understanding each resident's unique preferences and personalities to maintain a secure, clean, and orderly environment.
Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties:
- Punctually arrive for scheduled shifts prepared to work.
- Comprehend, adhere to, and advocate for resident rights.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Ensure a safe environment for residents, visitors, and colleagues.
- Review and implement resident care as outlined in care plans at the start of each shift.
- Daily review of the medication administration record (MAR) for accuracy against physician orders prior to administering medications.
- Update the MAR based on incoming physician orders for medications.
- Verify medication container labels from the pharmacy to ensure accuracy in drug, dosage, and frequency.
- Conduct monthly MAR audits using the five rights and provide feedback to the Health and Wellness Director.
- Administer medications according to care plans and document immediately in the MAR.
- Order and reorder medications as per policy to prevent shortages.
- Respond to residents' call signals and alarms promptly.
- Assist residents with mobility, personal hygiene, and daily living activities.
- Observe and report changes in resident behavior and condition, including vital signs and signs of neglect.
- Complete daily documentation as required.
- Encourage residents to maintain adequate nutrition and hydration.
- Exhibit a caring and respectful demeanor towards residents, families, and colleagues.
- Comply with infection control and safety protocols.
- Attend mandatory training and in-service meetings.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Document ancillary supply costs for billable supplies provided to residents.
- Maintain cleanliness in the environment and assist with housekeeping duties.
- Support kitchen and dining room tasks related to resident meals.
- Participate in new hire orientation and training.
- Engage residents in leisure activities as organized by the Life Engagement team.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Skills & Abilities:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, with a minimum of one year of experience in medication administration. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Computer Skills:
Basic knowledge of computer operations and familiarity with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Certificates & Licenses:
First Aid and CPR certification required.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with resident care, including lifting, transferring, and assisting with mobility.
Work Environment:
Employees may encounter various conditions while performing essential functions, including exposure to odors and potentially challenging resident behaviors. The work environment typically has a moderate noise level.
