
Radiologic Technologist

The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist performs under the indirect supervision of a registered technologist. They are required to produce diagnostic radiographs, assist in CT and other modalities within radiology, work in a clerical position, and transport patients.

Must be enrolled in an approved Radiologic Technology Program
Must have passed all clinical competencies administered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist is expected to practice safe procedures and adhere to radiation safety measures under the supervision of a registered radiographer. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
- Performing ordered exams per department and SCRMC policy and procedure.
- Verifying physician orders ensuring ordering provider, exam, and diagnosis is appropriate.
- Verifying identity of patient prior to performing exam.
- Practicing and encouraging teamwork within the department, the hospital, physicians, and all SCRMC facilities.
- Displaying accountability for tasks assigned to them.
- Assisting radiologists/physicians as needed.
- Participating in educational opportunities in use of new equipment and/or procedures.
- Communicating with registered technologist to assure completion of necessary paperwork and/or computer functions (RIS, PACS).
- Transporting radiology patients as needed.
- Adhering to department and SCRMC policy and procedures and SCRMC Performance Standards.
- Handling of trauma patients according to policy and procedure.
- Evaluating images for technical quality, correct orientation, and patient identification.
- Assisting with portable radiography-within hospital and at LTC facilities.
- Keeping area clean, neat, safe, and stocked with needed supplies.
- Adhering to safety, radiation, and infection control policies.
- Assisting in all areas of the department as needed.
- Reporting outcome of duties to radiology supervisor or team leader.
- Participating in Quality Improvement.
- Displaying proficiency in operation of imaging equipment, RIS, CR's, and laser printers in assigned area.
- Explaining procedure and availability of report to patient
- Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology as related to their education level.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique
- Use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence
- Ability to work as a team member
- Skilled in the operation of radiography equipment
- Attention to detail
- Basic understanding of computer technology
- Perform all duties using proper body mechanics
- Frequently move/lift between pounds, depending on assignment requirements
- Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling, and reaching to prepare equipment, materials, or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
- Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
- Ability to work in a stressful environment
- Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor
- Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities' needs and patient needs are met
- To comply with all the facilities' policies, procedures, and practices
The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood-borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families, or visitors.
