Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Radiographer to join our team at South Central Health System. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing a variety of duties to produce high-quality diagnostic radiographs while maintaining a high standard of patient care and confidentiality.

Responsibilities
  • Perform ordered exams per department and SCRMC policy and procedure.
  • Verify physician orders ensuring ordering provider, exam, and diagnosis is appropriate.
  • Verify identity of patient prior to performing exam.
  • Practice and encourage teamwork within the department, the hospital, physicians, and all SCRMC facilities.
  • Display accountability for tasks assigned to them.
  • Assist radiologists/physicians as needed.
  • Participate in educational opportunities in use of new equipment and/or procedures.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and/or computer functions.
  • Transport radiology patients as needed.
  • Adhere to department and SCRMC policy and procedures and SCRMC Performance Standards.
  • Handle trauma patients according to policy and procedure.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, correct orientation, and patient identification.
  • Perform portable radiography within hospital and at LTC facilities.
  • Keep area clean, neat, safe, and stocked with needed supplies.
  • Adhere to safety, radiation, and infection control policies.
  • Instruct and evaluate student radiographers.
  • Assist in training of new employees and cross-training.
  • Assist in all areas of the department as needed.
  • Report outcome of duties to radiology supervisor or team leader.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement.
  • Display proficiency in operation of imaging equipment, RIS, CR=s, and laser printers in assigned area.
  • Explain procedure and availability of report to patient.
  • Assist radiologists in the performance of exams.
  • Administer IV contrast using sterile technique. Document contrast use.
  • Assist in scheduling of radiology exams.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology as related to their education level.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.
  • Use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Participate in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Skilled in the operation of radiography equipment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of computer technology.
  • Perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
  • Frequently move/lift patients and equipment, depending on assignment requirements.
  • Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling, and reaching to prepare equipment, materials, or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor.
  • Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities' needs and patient needs are met.
  • To comply with all of the facilities' policies, procedures, and practices.
Working Conditions

The Registered Technologist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood-borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, and dusts.

Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families, or visitors.
