About the Position

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at George Mason University invites applications for one or more tenure-track or tenured faculty positions in mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in departmental and university service.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop a strong research program in mechanical engineering, with a focus on externally funded research
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering, with a focus on hands-on learning and real-world applications
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and outreach activities
  • Advise students and mentor junior faculty members

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a strong record of research and teaching experience. The candidate should have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

The department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in fluid mechanics and/or thermal sciences. The candidate should have a strong ability to build collaborations with other departments within the college and across the university.
