ESL Assistant Instructor Opportunity

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a dedicated ESL Assistant Instructor to support our Adult Education program. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in helping refugees and immigrants transition into everyday life in the US.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist lead teachers in facilitating dynamic and engaging ESL classes for immigrants and refugees.
  • Record daily attendance and assist with post-testing students at the end of the course.
  • Support with class preparation, including creating interactive activities and materials.
  • Conduct outreach to students to ensure attendance and engagement.
  • Meet with lead teachers to receive instruction and guidance on role in class.
  • Provide additional group tutoring for students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn effective classroom management techniques for students with varying backgrounds and English language levels.
  • Develop teamwork skills to prepare and execute lessons and activities.
  • Engage with a diverse group of students from various countries.

Requirements:

  • Experience teaching ESL to adults, with a bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with adult students from diverse backgrounds, including those with limited formal education and/or literacy skills.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and confidence facilitating large and small groups.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliability, responsibility, and dedication to the position until the end of the semester.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, or Dari is a plus.
