The Missiles & Aviation Solutions Division is seeking a dedicated Computational / Applied Aerodynamics Engineer to contribute to various flight vehicle initiatives. This role involves leveraging advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methodologies to analyze and enhance missile, aircraft, and launch vehicle performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize cutting-edge CFD software for the design and evaluation of flight vehicles. Responsibilities include basic CAD geometry adjustments, mesh generation, executing simulations on both local and remote Linux-based clusters, and processing results into usable formats for engineering assessments (data sets, visualizations, etc.).
- Assist in aerodynamic design evaluations, performance analysis, and the creation of detailed aerodynamic profiles for flight vehicles.
- Work autonomously with minimal supervision while collaborating within a diverse engineering team.
Basic Qualifications
- Proven experience applying theoretical, semi-empirical, and CFD methodologies to flight vehicle design challenges.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering with a strong academic record, including coursework in CFD or numerical methods.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and refine existing skills.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering.
- Experience with advanced CFD tools such as Kestrel, OVERFLOW, USM3D, FUN3D, DPLR, and COMSOL for simulating flight vehicle flowfields.
- Proficiency in generating computational meshes using industry-standard tools like Pointwise, ANSYS, or CFD-GEOM.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Fortran, and/or C++ in a UNIX/Linux environment.
- Experience with industry-standard CAD software, particularly SOLIDWORKS.
- Knowledge in areas such as chemically reacting flows, turbulence modeling, Chimera-Overset meshing, aerothermal modeling, and parallel programming.
- Experience in planning and executing wind tunnel experiments.
- Background in flight vehicle conceptual design and propulsion system integration.
- Active security clearance, SECRET or higher.
Compensation
The pay range for this position is $53,000 to $97,525. This range serves as a general guideline and does not guarantee specific compensation. Factors influencing the offer include job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
