Job Summary

The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for overseeing clinical laboratory testing tasks of various complexities, ensuring the validity and accuracy of test results. This role requires strong critical thinking, prioritization, and organization skills, as well as effective communication with laboratory staff, external clinical departments, and healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs oversight tasks on all clinical laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with Health First policies and procedures, as well as pertinent federal and state accreditation agency requirements.
• Provides daily oversight of clinical chemistry, toxicology, transfusion services, urinalysis, hemostasis, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and point-of-care testing, as assigned by lab leadership.
• Performs and assigns quality control tasks, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory tests and equipment to ensure accuracy and validity.
• Assists lab supervisor in performing validation of new tests, equipment, or methodology, and coordinates with lab leaders in implementation and follow-up of quality-related corrective actions.
• Communicates effectively with laboratory staff, external clinical departments, and healthcare professionals, observing AIDET in customer communication.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field, as outlined by CLIA.
• Medical Technologist licensure by the State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA.
• Two years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLSc), Medical Technologist (MT), or a related field.
• Strong skills in critical thinking, prioritization, and organization of tasks, as well as effective communication skills (written and verbal in English).

Preferred Qualifications

• Lab Supervisor's License through the State of Florida.
• Specialist Certification by ASCP (SBB, SC, SH, SM, etc.).
• Five years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Physical Requirements

• Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping.
• Long periods of computer time or at a workstation.
• Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
• May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to moderate noise.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined, on-site or remote.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
