Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pediatric Urology Technician to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Patient Care: Demonstrate patient care concepts, verify patient identity, and collaborate with team members to provide a safe and supportive environment for patients.
- Assist with Urologic Procedures: Prepare procedural fields, prepping patients for sterile/non-sterile urologic procedures, and assist with shaving, clipping, and prepping as required.
- Maintain Asepsis and Disinfection: Recognize the physical, spiritual, and psychological needs of patients/families, and demonstrate the application of asepsis and disinfection principles in the care of supplies, instruments, and the environment.
- Support Sterilization and Instrumentation: Identify principles of sterile technique, apply these techniques when assisting with procedures, and prepare items/instruments for sterilization, receive, sort, decontaminate, clean, and store surgical items.
- Ensure Safety and Quality: Continuously monitor and report any breaks in aseptic technique, ascertain that all specimens are properly identified, and adhere to standard precaution guidelines when handling/transporting multiple specimens, cultures, or blood samples.
Qualifications:
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or GED, and CNA or other educational equivalent, i.e., Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, Student Nurse who has completed one semester of clinical experience.
- Experience: Either (A) Two (2) years relevant direct patient care experience as dictated by placement, or (B) Education as stated above. All candidates must successfully complete the Urology Competency Based Training and Practicum, including age-specific competencies within three months of starting in the position.
- Accountability: In personal and job-related decisions and actions, consistently demonstrate the values of integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion.
Additional Information:
- Preferred Qualifications: 2-3 years of experience in urology or pediatrics, ambulatory experience preferred.
