Lead Immigration Attorney

Overview

Abacus Service Corporation is dedicated to promoting justice and providing high-quality legal support to vulnerable populations. We are seeking a Supervising Attorney to oversee a dedicated team of legal professionals who advocate for detained immigrants, particularly unaccompanied minors.

Role Summary

The Supervising Attorney will be responsible for managing the legal team, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and developing effective advocacy strategies. This position requires a strong commitment to social justice and the ability to work with individuals who may have faced significant challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, and supervise Senior Attorneys, Staff Attorneys, and other legal support staff.
• Regularly communicate with senior management regarding legal service provision and team performance.
• Formulate litigation strategies to address complex legal issues.
• Provide guidance and support to the legal team in case management and legal research.
• Conduct audits to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment through team-building initiatives.
• Deliver constructive feedback and implement performance improvement plans as necessary.
• Maintain up-to-date legal resources and documentation for the team.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation for compliance purposes.
• Perform additional duties as required to support the organization’s mission.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or Master of Law (LLM) from an accredited institution.
• Active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• Fluency in English and Spanish, with strong written communication skills.
• Minimum of one year of experience in immigration law, focusing on removal defense.
• Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and promote a positive workplace culture.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with virtual meeting platforms.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to understand client needs.
• Reliable internet access and transportation for travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Membership in the State Bar of Texas.
• Two or more years of experience in immigration law.
• Experience working with diverse populations, particularly from Central America.
• Previous supervisory experience in a legal setting.
• Background in non-profit legal services.

Work Environment

This position will primarily be office-based, with occasional travel to legal facilities and courts. The role requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and engage in regular communication with team members and clients.
